Summer Rowing Camps 2007
OAR Junior Crew rowing camp is designed for 7th through 12th grade boys and girls at all experience levels. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for young people to discover the joys of rowing in a fun, non-competitive environment. We emphasize participation of all campers and team building skills.
Our experienced coaching staff teaches the novice rower the basics of rowing: how to lift and carry the boat, how to row, and more importantly, how to row together. In short, the novice rower learns to participate in a team environment.
The more experienced rower focuses on smaller boats, improving both sweeping (single oar) and sculling (double oar) skills. They reconnect with the team and build strength and conditioning for the fall season.
The Green Lake Extravaganza Regatta caps the two sessions of camp. There is no additional fee for this regatta, but you must attend both sessions of camp to participate. Rowers travel to Seattle in parent carpools and spend Friday night at the Lake Washington Boathouse. Our athletes experience the fun of competing in a regatta attended by teams throughout the Northwest. We encourage parents to come to the regatta and see what their campers have accomplished.

We require each camper to pass a swim test – treading water for ten minutes – the first morning of the camp session. All campers need to bring a full water bottle, lunch, towel, sunglasses and sunscreen each day. Campers should wear shorts, T-shirts and socks. Avoid baggy clothes as they get caught in the rowing shells.
